As America Goes ‘Back to School’, Organizers of National School Choice Week Announce #SchoolChoiceFacts Day on Twitter, September 8
Muskegon, Michigan (PRWEB) September 07, 2011
Tens of millions of American children are “Back to School” after summer breaks this month, and the organizers of National School Choice Week (http://www.SchoolChoiceWeek.com) will converge on Twitter tomorrow for the first-ever #SchoolChoiceFacts Day to remind Americans about the benefits of educational choice.
Using the #schoolchoicefacts hashtag tomorrow (Thursday, September 8, 2011), dozens of education reform groups will spread the truth about school choice, which empowers parents to select challenging, effective learning environments for their children. Individuals are encouraged to tweet the facts – which are available at http://www.SchoolChoiceWeek.com – themselves.
School choice programs and initiatives – including public charter schooling, virtual and magnet schooling, opportunity scholarship programs, special needs scholarship programs, homeschooling, and public school choice – yield expanded student achievement, higher student graduation rates, strong levels of parental satisfaction, community renewal and economic growth, research indicates. #SchoolChoiceFacts Day will highlight the data behind these realities.
“Thanks to the advocacy of parents, teachers, legislators and community leaders, 2011 has seen unprecedented growth for school choice across the country,” said Kyle Olson, executive director of National School Choice Week. “With the first-ever #SchoolChoiceFacts day on Twitter, we look forward to embracing the wide reach of new media to encourage additional Americans to unite in favor of educational choice and to prepare for the second-annual National School Choice Week in January.”
National School Choice Week will take place from January 22-28, 2012. During 2011’s celebration, tens of thousands of people participated in more than 150 events organized by a diverse array of more than 200 organizations. Participants demanded reform to the nation’s well-funded but inadequate education system, where 1.2 million children drop out of school each year and American students are outpaced in literacy and math by children in 34 other countries.
“The ‘Back to School’ season is a bittersweet time for America. While millions of children are able to attend the schools of their parents’ choice, many more children are trapped in failing, underperforming, or unsafe schools,” said Kyle Olson, executive director of National School Choice Week. “We know what the solution is: school choice, and our goal is to expand access to effective learning environments for millions of children by expanding the public’s knowledge of the effectiveness of school choice policies.”
