Tulsa, OK (PRWEB) February 16, 2012

“It is always an honor to be recognized by your peers. Independent film-making is becoming more recognized by the industry as well as the mainstream audience. I am honored to be considered one of the leaders in this movement and I look forward with great anticipation to what the future holds for those of us using this medium to get our message and films out to the general audience. Winning Best Feature, Best Actor (Cameron ten Napel) and Best of Festival this past weekend at the Trail Dance Film Festival is validation that films like The Lamp are viable and needed.” ~ Director Tracy J Trost.

“The Trail Dance Film Festival validated the quality of The Lamp movie and its message in two ways. First, the overwhelming positive response from the audience when The Lamp was screened and, secondly, when the film received awards for Best Drama, Best Actor, and Best of Festival.” Jim Stovall, Author The Lamp, Co-Executive Producer.

“Being nominated is an hour enough, and then to WIN! It’s a dream come true,” states Cameron ten Napel. “I couldn’t have done it without all the wonderful people that surround me.”

This is the third year Trost Moving Pictures has won at the Trail Dance Film Festival. Previously they have won Best Feature Narrative for Find Me and Best of Festival, Best Feature Drama, Best Actor (Muse Watson) and Best of Oklahoma Film for A Christmas Snow, an awards favorite.

About Trost Moving Pictures: TMP Studios is an independent film production company based in Tulsa, OK. They have three award winning films including Find Me, A Christmas Snow, which stars Catherine Mary Stewart (The Last Starfighter), Muse Watson (Prison Break, NCIS), Anthony Tyler Quinn (No Greater Love, Boy Meets World) and Cameron ten Napel (Cool Dog, The Lamp), and The Lamp, which stars Jason London (Dazed & Conf used), Meredith Salenger (Lake Placid), L Scott Caldwell (Lost), Sarah Brown (Days of Our Lives), Cameron ten Napel (A Christmas Snow), Muse Watson (NCIS), and Louis Gossett, Jr. (Officer and A Gentleman).

They are actively pursuing many exciting projects in the entertainment industry, including their current stage adaption A Christmas Snow LIVE! in Branson, MO at the Starlite Theatre and their fourth feature film Then and Now based on a novel by bestselling author Jim Stovall.

Washington, DC (PRWEB) February 22, 2012

Learning Ally (formerly Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic), a national nonprofit organization serving 250,000 individuals with learning differences, visual impairment and reading disabilities, will honor six remarkable students on February 27 at its 52nd annual National Achievement Awards celebration in the nation’s capital.

Three of these high achievers are blind or visually impaired; three have learning disabilities like dyslexia; all are recognized for scholastic excellence, exemplary leadership, and service to others; and all have thrived in education with the help of accessible educational content and assistive technology that Learning Ally provides.

The six winners will receive cash awards of $ 6,000 and travel with their families to Washington, DC, where they will accept their awards, meet with public officials and Members of Congress, and speak at a special Roundtable on “The Impact of Access” on Capitol Hill. This year’s NAA winners include:

Ashley Brow, 22-year old blind student from Massachusetts, is the first member of her family to graduate from college. Having lost her vision in eighth grade, Brow finished her undergraduate work at Emerson College with a 3.99 grade point average, and is now in graduate school pursuing a career as a speech-language pathologist.

Gregory “Grey” Pilant, a 19-year old student from Florida, has severe dyslexia and reading-processing disability. Now a freshman at the University of Miami, Pilant is blossoming as a Pre-Med student and aiming to make an impact on the healthcare field, while also working in hospital emergency rooms as a volunteer.

Henry “Hoby” Wedler, a 24-year old from California who was born blind, completed his undergraduate work at UC Davis – double majoring in Chemistry and History and minoring in Mathematics, and achieving a 3.83 grade point average. Wedler is now pursuing his Ph.D. in Chemistry, and has established himself as a teacher, role model and mentor for younger science students.

Margaret Perry, an 18-year old from Maryland who has dyslexia and attention deficit disorder, is a freshman at Duke University studying Public Policy and Art. Perry spent last summer mentoring Baltimore city youth at SuperKids Camp in Baltimore, a nonprofit summer camp for city elementary students to improve their literacy and math skills. She plans to use her knowledge about learning differences to be an advocate for those facing struggles similar to her own.

Stephanie Fernandes, a 22-year old graduate student from Ohio, is pursuing her law degree at Ohio State University. Undeterred by total blindness resulting from a rare disorder, Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis, Fernandes graduated with honors from Boston College with a 3.93 grade point average. She spent the past summer in Washington, DC immersed in an internship at the National Disability Rights Network (NDRN) and has her sights firmly set on a career in public interest law, focusing on disabilities and child advocacy.

Carson Wigley, 18-year old dyslexic student from Maryland, graduated from Worcester Preparatory School with a 97.0/100 average, and is now a freshman at Wake Forest University. She was a Maryland state winner of Letters about Literature, a national competition of the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress; and she also founded her own organization, SHINE Now, which has collected 4,000 books for children in Title I schools and homeless shelters.

About the National Achievement Awards

Each year, Learning Ally honors a total of 15 students in two categories of its National Achievement Awards. Blind or visually impaired college seniors and grad students are presented with the privately endowed Mary P. Oenslager Scholastic Achievement Awards (SAA). High school seniors with learning disabilities such as dyslexia are honored with the privately endowed Marion Huber Learning Through Listening® (LTL) Awards. Hundreds of students apply for these prestigious awards each year and are evaluated by committees of Learning Ally volunteers, board members, parents, educators, donors and staff. Each award winner has a long list of honors and accomplishments, and has graduated with a GPA above 3.0, with most near the 4.0 mark. The top three winners in each category are honored with a trip to Washington, DC with their families, and a $ 6,000 cash award to support their education.

About Learning Ally™

Founded in 1948 as Recording for the Blind, Learning Ally serves more than 250,000 K-12, college and graduate students, as well as veterans and lifelong learners – all of whom cannot read standard print due to blindness, visual impairment, dyslexia, or other learning disabilities. Learning Ally’s collection of more than 70,000 digitally recorded textbooks and literature titles – delivered through internet download, assistive technology devices, and mainstream devices like iPhone and iPad – is the largest of its kind in the world. More than 5,000 volunteers across the U.S. help to record and process the educational materials, which students rely on to achieve academic and professional success. Learning Ally, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, is funded in part by grants from state and local education programs, and the generous contributions of individuals, foundations and corporations.
Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) February 07, 2012

MediLean hCG Diet Clinics announces the grand opening of their Westside location in Santa Monica, California. MediLean hCG Santa Monica is located in the heart of Santa Monica at 5th and Broadway, just walking distance to 3rd Street Promenade. MediLean is located within Fred Segal (420 Broadway Santa Monica CA 90401), a landmark of Los Angeles and the Westside known for their high fashion and cutting edge trends.

MediLean™ is a Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program started out of Cindy Macer, MD Family Practice to ensure patients’ weight loss was safe, effective, and supervised by a Physician & Registered Dietician. MediLean™ has found incredible success seeing patients safely lose 14-24 pounds in just three weeks.

The MediLean™ Program offers patients a complete medical history assessment, labs, Patient Guidebook, weekly visits with experienced staff, weekly B12 and lipotropic injections as needed to promote energy and fat breakdown and complete nutritional guidance throughout the program. At MediLean the staff provides personalized professional care that allows each patient to see weight loss success in just three short weeks.

The hCG Diet program using prescription strength hCG has been enormously popular due to its spectacular results. The over- the-counter homeopathic hCG drops and supplements however are not the same as the pharmaceutical grade hCG prescribed by a physician and can be extremely dangerous to consumers. hCG is the abbreviation for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin. It is a hormone that was first used for weight loss in the 1950’s by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons. Used in conjunction with a medically supervised very low calorie diet (VLCD), countless patients have seen rapid weight loss results while on the hCG diet program. It has become one of the most successful weight loss programs available today.

The MediLean hCG Santa Monica location treats patients from Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Brentwood, Westwood, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Culver City, Marina Del Rey, Playa Del Rey, Venice Beach and other surrounding cities. Individuals who are interested in a medically supervised hCG program in Santa Monica are invited to visit MediLean’s website, MediLeanhCG.com or call now (310) 917-1515 to book an appointment at MediLean hCG At Fred Segal Santa Monica. MediLean is hosting a GRAND OPENING event at Fred Segal Santa Monica on Saturday, February 11th from 11-3pm. Anyone can come and check out the new location, shop and get a Vitamin B12 injection to promote energy, weight loss and mental clarity.

About: MediLean is the first hCG diet clinic in Los Angeles that offers a medically supervised diet program throughout the greater Los Angeles area. The MediLean Weight Loss Clinics are located in Pasadena, Newport Beach, Rolling Hills Estates, and Santa Monica. The clinics are owned and operated by Cindy Latham Macer, M.D. Dr. Cindy Macer completed her undergraduate work at Occidental College where she graduated with honors with a degree in Biology. She then attended the University of Southern California Keck School Of Medicine and graduated with her medical degree in 1986. She trained in General Medicine and has been working in family medicine for the past 25 years. Dr. Cindy has a successful private medical practice in Rolling Hills Estates. MediLean Medical Weight Loss started out of this office after she and her dietitian began to pursue safe ways to help their patients lose their excess weight.

Celebrate the 6th Annual NATIONAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK, February 18 25, 2012

Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) February 21, 2012

The 6th Annual National Entrepreneurship Week is featuring local entrepreneurs such as Joe Russell of Russell’s Cycling + Fitness, a bicycle shop in Washington, IL. This entrepreneur demonstrated his interest in mentoring the students of the Business Entrepreneurship Class at Washington Community High School, in the winning video interview for “Hot Shot Entrepreneurs”. YouTube link The competition was sponsored by the Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education with the winning video posted on the National Entrepreneurship Week website.

Entrepreneurship Education, like this Illinois program, is alive and well in most of the United States, with various types of action being taken to support entrepreneurship as a career choice in the public schools of different states.

SURVEY OF STATES – To honor the 6th annual celebration of National Entrepreneurship Week, the host (The Consortium for Entrepreneurship Education) conducted a survey of the state education leaders to determine “THE STATE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION, 2012″. The goal was to explore where each state stands on providing entrepreneurial experiences with emphasis on K-12 programs.

Most significant from the survey, 80% of the states said “Entrepreneurship skills are extremely important to the future.” However, for the most part, these state leaders have not taken major steps to include entrepreneurship education in the curriculum. Important results included:

More than two-thirds of the states said “they have standards that include entrepreneurship competencies”. Even more said they “offer separate classes in entrepreneurship” (76%), and almost all (90%) said the “colleges offered entrepreneurship education.”

When asked if their teacher training/certification had requirements for teacher preparation to support entrepreneurship education, 80% said “no” or they were “not sure”. When you consider that most teachers have not been entrepreneurs it seems obvious that this is a major area of needed teacher preparation.

When asked how entrepreneurship was taught in their state, 75% said “optional use of business plan development in various courses” followed by 44% that said “they have summer camps for selected students”. The concepts of “problem-based learning activities”, a series of “entrepreneurial experiences”, “preparation for questions on state tests”, and “opportunities for advanced placement credit” were not identified as frequently used. The dependence on a written business plan as preparation for starting a business is a limiting educational approach. However this is often the only answer in both high schools and colleges.

The Consortium is delighted that 78% of the states reporting, said that data from the Consortium’s newsletters focusing on the FORUM, webinars, and websites regarding the development of the entrepreneurial climate have been used to enhance entrepreneurial education in their state.

We invite all interested in nurturing the entrepreneurial mindset with American youth to see the entire report, entitled “THE STATE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP EDUCATION 2012″ at http://www.entre-week.org under “Hot Topics”. We are particularly encouraged by the state leadership that is now moving toward including entrepreneurship competencies in state educational standards.

CELEBRATIONS EVERYWHERE – Across the nation there are major events being staged this week at state and local venues during this, the 6th annual National Entrepreneurship Week. Educators and entrepreneurs alike recognize the importance of the contributions of American risk-takers as they create jobs and build the economy. Many governors are showing their support for “free enterprise” with state proclamations for the Week. The Consortium’s website http://www.entre-week.org is a collection of pictures, stories, and events created by the network of those that believe….

“Entrepreneurs are not ‘born’ … rather they ‘become’ through the experiences of their lives.”

Parents, teachers, entrepreneurs and community leaders everywhere will want American Youth to seek their opportunities to become self-reliant and develop the skills to create their own future.

LET’S ALL CELEBRATE THE 6TH ANNUAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK, February 18 – 25, 2012!

RIVERDALE, N.Y., (PRWEB) February 13, 2012

Cardinal-designate Timothy M. Dolan, who will formally be elevated to cardinal on Feb. 18 by Pope Benedict XVI and has served as Archbishop of New York since 2009, will deliver Manhattan College’s keynote address at the College’s 170th Commencement on Sunday, May 20.

The new cardinal will also receive an honorary doctorate degree during the 1 p.m. ceremony, which will award more than 700 undergraduates with degrees in some 40 major fields of study from its five schools in arts, business, education, engineering and science.

“We are honored and delighted that Cardinal Dolan will be with us to celebrate this great day in the life of the College,” said Brennan O’Donnell, Ph.D., president of Manhattan College. “He has a deep affection for and appreciation of the work of Catholic education at all levels and has been a wise counselor and pastor to the Colleges and Universities in his diocese. His becoming an honorary alumnus of Manhattan College represents the continuance of a great history of faithful, collaborative work between the College and the Church in New York City.”

Since first being installed as Archbishop of New York on April 15, 2009, Cardinal Dolan has guided the diocese in the Catholic faith and teachings. In 2010, his fellow bishops elected him to president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, and he also was chairman of Catholic Relief Services from 2009-2010.

Cardinal Dolan was ordained a priest in 1976 and spent the first 10 years of his religious service working as an associate pastor at Immacolata Parish in Richmond Heights, Mo., and serving in parish ministry in St. Louis. In the late 1980s, he was recognized for his leadership in the Church and appointed to secretary of the Apostolic Nunciature in Washington, D.C. He went on to serve as rector of the Pontifical North American College in Rome from 1994-2001. Before beginning his work in New York, Cardinal Dolan was the Archbishop of Milwaukee from 2002-2009 and also was named Auxiliary Bishop of St. Louis in 2001 by Pope John Paul II.

Born in St. Louis, he received a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Cardinal Glennon College. He completed his priestly formation at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, and earned a license in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical University of St. Thomas. In addition, Cardinal Dolan was awarded a doctorate in American Church History from The Catholic University of America.

Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) February 19, 2012

According to Exercise Candy president Alex Allan: Maintaining a healthy, lean physique 365 days a year for most, if not all of your life comes down to this fact about brain chemistry:

“There are two major types of people in this world when it comes to “feel good” brain chemistry; those with a high or higher sensitivity to reward, and those with a low or lower sensitivity to reward. The basic idea here is that higher the sensitivity to reward, the harder it is to maintain impulse control during certain situations. Also, people who have a higher sensitivity to reward usually have less dopamine, and will seek out more extreme impulse based behaviours to feel good. This can happen during childhood, which also could be why overweight kids have a harder time with weight management later in life.”

Alex offers new perspective as to the real reason why diets fail by defining this large group of chronic dieters as “HSR” or High Sensitivity to Reward types, and uses his blog at http://www.exercisecandy.com as a platform to explain how the brain chemistry of the HSR is incompatible with many of today’s diets, supplements, processed foods, hardcore workout routines, and short term weight loss solutions. Allan identifies several of the most destructive triggers for HSR’s, offers alternative strategies to help avoid binge eating, and explains the “why” of the concept with the help of solid scientific studies.

Alex explains how many people with a high sensitivity to reward (HSR types) use specific high glycemic foods to satisfy the cravings in their brains; ignoring the competing feeling of fullness message that is sent from receptors in the stomach. For these people, any food that causes a huge spike in insulin and is rapidly absorbed through the bloodstream will elevate dopamine levels and get them “high.” Make no mistake about it; this is a legitimate addiction that acts on the brain in a way that is similar to the actions of cocaine and other powerful drugs. The most potent offender affecting blood sugar levels and brain chemistry is refined white sugar. Not by accident, its molecular structure is one nitrogen molecule away from that of cocaine. Sugar is only one “trigger” that needs to be completely avoided by HSR’s. There are several others that Allan outlines in the article, including the ingestion of artificial sweetener which he likens to; “using Tantric intercourse to overcome a sex addiction..pure torture.”

Alex has identified that the major problem with many diet programs is that the focus is either based on a points system that allows small quantities of trigger foods, or a system that balances fasting and considerable caloric restriction with “cheat days” that inevitably become ridiculous displays of gluttony. This leads to negative feelings of self that contribute to a shame spiral of addiction, and the process repeats itself. The main focus of this article is to teach HSR type people that it is not their fault, and to offer strategies that will help. Through identifying their unique issues, and making changes that are favorable to their brain chemistry, their chances of success will go up.

Woodbridge, NJ (PRWEB) February 19, 2012

The internationally acclaimed Newark Boys Chorus School (NBCS) hosted its 2012 “Lawyers Leading the Way” Annual Breakfast on Friday, February 10th, from 8:00am – 10:00am at The Newark Club, One Newark Center. Keynote speaker for the fundraising event was noted attorney Raymond M. Brown, Esq.

“Lawyers Leading the Way” was launched by NBCS in 2011 to provide an opportunity for both alumni and other members of the legal profession to support the school. NBCS is a 42-year-old arts and academic institution located in downtown Newark, serving youngsters in grades 4 through 8 from the Greater Newark community.

Each year the school educates approximately 80 students, all young men. While attending NBCS, the students study a general academic and arts curriculum which is highlighted by the opportunity to travel abroad for performances. The youngsters develop confidence, poise and discipline during their time at NBCS, and many of the school’s 530 graduates have gone on to attend prep schools, usually on generous scholarships. Over 90% of graduates then attend college and enjoy successful careers as lawyers, corporate vice presidents, school administrators and musicians. Many come back to visit and speak at the school as alumni, giving back to the institution that gave so much to them.

The funds raised by the “Lawyers Leading the Way” event will provide scholarships for talented students who cannot afford annual tuition; more than 60% of NBCS students are in need of financial aid.

The NBCS Board of Trustees was honored to have Raymond M. Brown, Esq. as Keynote Speaker for this year’s breakfast. Mr. Brown is a partner at Greenbaum, Rowe, Smith & Davis LLP, a leading New Jersey law firm with offices in Woodbridge and Roseland. A high profile criminal defense attorney with an international legal practice, Mr. Brown is also a leading figure in a developing area of the law related to the regulation and enforcement of business requirements for human rights compliance. He is host of the Emmy Award-winning New Jersey Network television program “Due Process,” a Visiting Professor and Research Scholar at Seton Hall University School of Law, and the recipient of numerous legal industry accolades. He is also the published author of articles on a variety of legal topics, including human rights due diligence and related issues.

Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) February 18, 2012

Graduates from Trebas Institute, a private college specializing in career training for the entertainment industry, were nominated for seven Grammy Awards this year.

The National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences hosted “Music’s biggest night” on the 12th of February, and Trebas’ graduates were front and center. The school’s most visible representative was Audio Production graduate Noah “40” Shebib, who recorded, engineered and mixed a host of Grammy-nominated recordings, including the Rihana album “Loud”, which was nominated for “Album of the Year”. Shebib also engineered and mixed:

“Moment 4 Life”, featuring Drake and Nicki Minaj, from the album “Pink Friday”, which was nominated for “Best Rap Performance”; “What’s My Name?” from the album “Loud”, performed by Rihanna and Drake, which was nominated for “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration”; Lil Wayne’s “Tha Carter IV” album and Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday” album, both of which were nominated in the “Best Rap Album” category.

Elsewhere, former student David Mustaine, lead guitarist and vocalist with the band Megadeth, was nominated for “Best Hard Rock/Metal Performance” for the song “Public Enemy No. 1”, from the album “Thirt3en”.

Meanwhile, Gregg Allman’s “Low Country Blues” was nominated for “Best Blues Album”. It was engineered and mixed by Trebas graduate Michael Piersante, an eight-time Grammy Award winner. Michael won three Grammy Awards in 2009, including “Album of the Year” and “Record of the Year” for Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’ “Raising Sand” album. He recently completed engineering/mixing albums for Elton John, Willie Nelson, Elvis Costello and John Mellancamp.

“One of the reasons for our students’ success is the practical curriculum, which is designed to match industry job requirements,” says David P. Leonard, President and Founder of Trebas Institute. “In one year of intensive studies, students acquire the knowledge, skills and professionalism needed for entry level positions in their chosen industry. In addition, the college’s internship program and job placement service helps them network and find their niche,” says Leonard.

Established in 1979, Trebas Institute is a trusted industry source for well-trained audio production engineers, sound designers, entertainment managers and a variety of professional roles in the film and television production sector. With a number of experienced and well-known instructors, Trebas’ concentrated programs emphasize practical, hands-on learning, which ensure that graduates have the experience and confidence needed to step directly into the workforce.
