Some communicators are ahead of the game, making creative use of video to reach employees and customers.

Others have had a recent YouTube epiphany and are racing to catch up.

Either way, Ragan Communications is offering a webcast with PBS producer Drew Keller which will boost skills in the medium every communicator needs to master.

The webcast—“Corporate Video Virtual Training Class,” airing May 22 from 1-3 p.m. Central—shows just how to do everything from create libs to record perfect audio.

“We’re all busy, but communicators must find time to learn to do video,” said Ragan Communications Chief Executive Mark Ragan. “Those who don’t are going to be buried alive by the competition—or find themselves out of work.”

Keller will teach participants how to improve subject choices, rethink themes, and polish productions.

Participants will learn:

The seven steps to powerful video storytelling
Three questions to ask before planning a video
How to build tension
Why every script must have a decisive turning point
Why video-makers should outline everything, even ad libs
The two-column format for scripts

Those who sign up will master audio, lighting, and equipment, and learn how to take the “sound footprint” of any room.

They will also receive a free DVD of the lecture after the webcast. The DVD, the webcast, and all Drew’s slides cost only $ 295—$ 50 less for Ragan Select members.

Keller is an award-winning television producer, editor, and educator. He developed an internal media portal for Microsoft, and is writing and producing on the PBS series, “BizKids.” He is on the faculty at the University of Washington’s Masters of Communication in Digital Media program.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) May 12, 2012

The Psychiatric Hospitals industry treats about 15.0% of the US population in any given year, according to a report by the Surgeon General, and the incidence and awareness of mental illness and substance abuse disorders has been on the rise. Partly due to the mounting awareness of mental health, the industry is expected to grow 1.9% per year on average to total $ 20.4 billion during the five years to 2012. The economic recession only had a minor impact on the industry in 2009, causing revenue growth to slow that year. Revenue is expected to expand a moderate 1.1% in 2012, which reflects a weak economic recovery. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Sophia Snyder, reduced capacity, mental health parity legislation and increased demand for behavioral health services have improved industry fundamentals during the past five years. The government has been making efforts to reduce healthcare costs by emphasizing care in community and residential settings. Additionally, managed-care organizations are becoming larger through consolidation, which has increased the price negotiating power of these companies. The net result has been a reduction in psychiatric beds. Although consolidation has been increasing in recent years, the Psychiatric Hospitals industry remains fragmented. The top firm is Universal Health Services Inc. Concentration can be particularly high within some geographic regions, since location is a key success factor; once a large psychiatric hospital has established itself in a market, it is more difficult for a small company to compete.

There has been substantial merger and acquisition activity among for-profit firms and an increase in the management of state-owned facilities by private operators, continues Snyder. Most notably, Universal Health Services acquired Psychiatric Solutions in 2010. Consolidation in the Psychiatric Hospitals industry has been occurring for quite some time. Prior to the announced deal between Universal Health and Psychiatric Solutions, both companies generated a significant portion of their growth through acquiring smaller operators. Part of the contraction in psychiatric hospitals came from consolidation in the overall healthcare sector. As managed care organizations merged in the 1990s, hospitals, general and psychiatric care alike, consolidated. This improved hospitals’ ability to negotiate with MCOs on payments and pricing.

The number of industry hospitals is expected to decrease to 516 in the five years to 2012. This trend is expected to continue during the next five years as companies consolidate, particularly following the merging of the two largest players in the industry. Although the number of companies is expected to decline, bed counts will begin to stabilize to meet demand as the remaining operators grow in capacity. An improved balance between supply and demand will weaken the industry’s ability to negotiate with managed-care organizations and governmental bodies, which will restrain profitability in the five years to 2017. During this period, operating profit is forecast to decline slightly. The favorable Medicaid reimbursement environment of recent years is forecast to come under pressure during the next five years as states look for ways to cut healthcare spending. This, together with mounting wage and supply costs, will put downward pressure on profitability in the industry. In contrast, the economy is forecast to improve, which will boost the number of people with health insurance coverage and raise disposable income. Consequently, revenue is forecast to increase.
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) May 16, 2012

Highly successful PraxisNow CEO and multimillion-dollar entrepreneur John Assaraf today announces a breakthrough event in San Diego, CA, June 14, 15, and 16th, Money2, The Neuroscience of Financial Success. The continuing deep recession, anemic recovery and struggling business climate energized Assaraf to develop his breakthrough PraxisNow neuro-training products geared toward re-wiring the brain for success. Now Assaraf and PraxisNow are bringing cutting edge neuroscience evidence-based success training to the world through a three day event in San Diego, CA.

“If you believe deep down that you are only worth $ 30,000, $ 50,000 or $ 100,000 a year your implicit brain will consciously and unconsciously dismiss any suggestions or actions that will help you make more. It is critically important to have your conscious and unconscious beliefs and habits synchronized together, so your brain is working for you, instead of against you. This is known as Neural Resonance” says Assaraf . “When the right neurological structures are stimulated in the right way, you can actually change the structure and functioning of your “executive” thinking and decision making brain.”

The event features top “show you how it’s done” neurologists, psychiatrists, educators and entrepreneurs:

Harvard psychiatrist, Srini Pillay, M.D. Author of “Life Unlocked” and “The Science Behind The Law of Attraction” http://www.psychologytoday.com/experts/srini-pillay-md
Former Chairman of Psychology at Scripps Memorial Hospital, Dr. George Pratt Author of “Code to Joy” http://www.codetojoy.com/
Neuro-coach and brain training expert, Mark Waldman, author of 12 books on the brain, including “How God Changes your Brain” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yvhCLXEeSDQ (TEDx)
“The Queen of Sales Conversion,” and author of “The Invisible Close” Lisa Sasevich http://www.theinvisibleclose.com/articles/about/
Entrepreneur and Author of “The Answer “ and “Having it All”, John Assaraf http://www.praxisnow.com

At the event participates learn to:

Understand why their brain believes their negative thoughts are real, and how to disconnect their brain so problems, issues and negative thoughts no longer influence their life or affect their income
Practice specific cognitive priming techniques — right in the event
Why real change is painful to go through (even “good” change, like increasing their income!)
Why “will power” alone is a myth, and immediate steps they must take to experience absolute financial breakthrough in their life
How their brain innovates and how to do it “on command”
and much more.

The event can be viewed at http://www.money2event.com and a video synopsis of the speakers at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LLTwsdsJl8A Praxis Now continues to educate, innovate and create products for making a better tomorrow. http://www.praxisnow.com

New York, NY (PRWEB) May 15, 2012

Hixenbaugh Ancient Art is pleased to announce its participation in the 10th annual Brussels Ancient Art Fair. From Wednesday June 6th through Sunday June 10th, fair participants will exhibit the finest quality authentic antiquities at various galleries around the Sablon Square in the heart of the Brussels art market. Hixenbaugh Ancient Art will be located at Costermans-Antiques, Place du Grand Sablon 5.

For 10 years, collectors, scholars, and curators with a passion for ancient art have attended the Brussels Ancient Art fair. As one of the few fairs dedicated entirely to antiquities, the Brussels Ancient Art Fair offers an excellent opportunity for experienced and novice collectors alike to immerse themselves in the world of collectable archaeological artifacts. As a special event to mark its 10th anniversary, the fair has added an exhibition of Egyptian art, entitled “Ancient Egypt: Masterpieces from Collectors and Collections.” The exhibition will include 125 remarkable Egyptian pieces, many of which have never been exhibited in public before.

Hixenbaugh Ancient Art will be exhibiting over 100 desirable ancient objects at this year’s fair. Of special note is our exquisite Roman marble statuette of Aphrodite. The image of this piece was chosen to represent the 2012 BAAF fair in all of its advertising and press. This beautifully sculpted statuette of the goddess of love and beauty, rising from the sea and flanked by a dolphin will be on display at our fair space in Brussels.

All participating dealers at the Brussels Ancient Art Fair are members of the International Association of Dealers in Ancient Art (IADAA). As a new member, gallery director Randall Hixenbaugh is pleased for the opportunity to exhibit at this prestigious fair. Mr. Hixenbaugh stated, “As frequent fair attendee, I’m excited for the opportunity to participate in this year’s fair and especially pleased that our piece was chosen to represent the 10th edition of the fair.”

ABOUT HIXENBAUGH ANCIENT ART

Hixenbaugh Ancient Art Ltd, located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, is dedicated to handling fine authentic antiquities (Greek, Egyptian, Near Eastern and Roman Art). All of the pieces we handle are legally acquired, in complete accordance with US and international regulations and laws concerning the import and sale of ancient objects. All objects are guaranteed genuine and as described. Hixenbaugh Ancient Art is a member of the Art and Antique Dealers League of America (AADLA), the Confederation Internationale des Negociants en Oeuvres d’Art (CINOA), Appraisers Association of America (AAA), and the International Association of Dealers in Ancient Art (IADAA).

At Hixenbaugh Ancient Art, we believe that responsible collecting of antiquities is not only a pleasurable pursuit and wise investment, but an important responsibility. Today’s collectors are custodians of the past, links in a chain, preserving the past for future generations by passing their collections on to their heirs, reselling them to eager collectors, or donating them to museums. In doing so, the collector of ancient art reaps the many benefits of acquiring truly unique and thought provoking objects that have come down to us from the ancients, whose influences pervade every aspect of the modern world.

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) February 22, 2012

“Empowering and engaging families in the process of care” is a top priority for Nemours Children’s Hospital.

Technologies Focused On Patient-Centered Care – As partners in care delivery, patient families will have secure and confidential access to clinical information wherever they may be, enhancing communication and follow-up with patients prior to coming to the hospital and after discharge through the use of personal health records systems.

For several years Nemours had been investigation how to better engage patients and families in the process of care. Recognizing the evolving needs and technological capabilities of patients and their families, a consumer health platform to support their corporate strategy was being sought. The following key requirements were developed through extensive family interviews: efficient and effective communication between families of patients and clinicians; ability to track key parameters for chronic and complex patients; and the ability to view lab results and appointments. Clarity Health Journal is the first product to embody these needs.

The 2011 Cluster Grant award for Obesity Research Cluster (ORC) calls for implementation of Clarity Health Journal™. Nemours seeks to better understand the utility and effectiveness of decision support messages delivered directly to the patient. Clarity Health Journal delivers a wide array of features, otherwise not available to patients at Nemours. It will also integrate with the current portal known as MyNemours.

Clarity Health Journal™ was chosen because the application delivers a comprehensive web 2.0 experience to patients including social networking and the ability to deliver messages via mobile devices. The project will engage families dealing with Child Obesity in order to better understand the use of technology to improve patient outcomes by empowering families.

The Clarity Health Journal designed as a family centric health application allows for information sharing and monitoring. It will be used by family members of patients at Nemours. Focusing on both the patient and the family is a unique approach to healthcare. Parents of children with health conditions are motivated in monitoring their health and working with the care team to foster health and wellness while lowering the cost of healthcare. The Clarity Health Journal integrates the hospital record and the doctor’s records along with personal health details to create a more complete health record.

“This pilot program will look at outcome measures related to patient compliance using a combination of a food and an exercise diary.” Dr. David Milov (CMIO of Nemours Children’s Hospital). Looking at how the family involvement can enhance the quality of health care, Nemours is working hand-in-hand with families to find innovative ways to help manage children’s health. Dr. David Milov indicated “this project will be great for patient communication, improve patient care, decrease missed appointments, decrease misunderstandings when it comes to patient instructions, encourage patient/family to have responsibility for their own care.”

Over the course of the pilot, Nemours will monitor early indicators of success with researchers and family focus groups.

“Designed with both personal wellness and the efficient delivery of healthcare services in mind, Clarity Health Journal fosters better quality health by promoting family and patient participation in the management of their health, integrating health data into the healthcare providers’ work flow, increasing the quality and accuracy of that information and driving down the cost of healthcare,” explains Saverio Rinaldi, President and CEO of Consulting Cadre International Inc. “Clarity Health Journal helps improve communication by involving the family in the patients’ care in and outside of the hospital; we feel this will reduce readmissions and emergency visits.”

Clarity Health Journal has the capability to cover the broad spectrum of individual health management, from post-natal and elderly care to normal health and chronic disease management.

The solution takes an individual’s health information, which today can be found in paper and/or electronic form in one or more places, including general practitioners and/or specialists’ offices, hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities and patients’ residences and re-engineers them into an accessible, updatable, electronic health journal.

Brewing beer might well be humankind’s first biotechnology, representing our first attempt to harness the power of living organisms. Dating back as early as 9000 BC, the craft galvanized the cultivation of barley and wheat, transformed hunter-gatherers into farmers and fueled the building of monumental structures, such as the pyramids, whose workers received five liters of beer per day as compensation. What did those ancient brews taste like? How were they made? Advanced scientific tools and new archaeological finds offer up tantalizing clues—and tasty results. Join biomolecular archaeologist Patrick McGovern and pioneering brewmaster Sam Calagione as they explore ancient ales from around the world and retrace their journey to Italy to reconstruct an Etruscan fermented beverage circa 800 to 700 BC. This rare brew features an exotic combination of ingredients: hazelnuts, pomegranates, grapes, wild flower honey, frankincense, barley, wheat, and even a few hops. Following the talk and tasting, head up to Eataly’s rooftop brewery, La Birreria, to sample a first-run batch of this prehistoric ale before fermentation. It’s a sensational evening of artisanal snacks, Dogfish Head Ancient Ales and fascinating science.
