While only a small percentage of teachers and academics strive to earn their PhD in educational philosophy, fewer still graduate with the honor. For some, the concept of the doctoral process is daunting, but as they say, anything worth doing is worth doing well. A typical doctoral program take 5-7 years during which you will have completed about one quarter of graduate school life. Many areas of the training are not done, students then spend 2-4 years in postdoctoral training before the start of their career. Commitment to a Ph.D. also means some sacrifice. Graduate students are generally not well paid. You can add a personal debt. In relation to your peers, you can give up years of earnings. In addition, you sacrifice yourself, because the doctoral education is the “job” that requires a lot of hard work and perseverance.
