Liberty University Online Reaches Milestone with Nearly 62,000 Students

Liberty University proved yet again why it is one of the largest four-year universities in the United States with an announcement last month that its online program has reached an enrollment of nearly 62,000 students.
“This is a historic event for Liberty University Online, enrollment management and Liberty University,” said Chris Johnson, vice president for enrollment management. “We want to give thanks to the Lord for making this accomplishment possible.”
Liberty University instituted a distance learning program in the 1980s to provide Christian-based education to more students. From this beginning, Liberty University Online has continued to increase its course offerings and credibility in the academic community.
The online university reached 25,000 students in 2008 and has more than doubled that number in just two years. Since last April, more than 10,000 students were added. These numbers, combined with the 12,370 who attend on-campus courses, place Liberty in the top spot as the largest Christian university in the world.
